Cheap and filling. I’ve never spent more than $20 here feeding two. Prices are ridiculous.Congee is the chinese comfort food for me. When I got sick my gran used to make us seafood and fish congee. The congee here is very slowly simmered and glutinous. It’s great with a bit of cilantro to clean the palate.I also like the black bean clams here.Don’t bother with the xiao longbao aren’t very well made. The skin is thick but somehow manages to break easily. I’ve already had the best XLBs in Shanghai and this can’t compare.Service is brisk like most chinatown joints. Congee village is open late, and even though there’s usually a long line the tables turn quickly.
Worst Service Ever. Wow. Party of 16. Table for 8. I literally had to eat out of my lap. I’ve had authentic Cantonese before. This is as authentic to Cantonese as PF Changs is Chinese. You can get away with being extraordinarily rude to customers if your food is good enough. Sadly your pasty, over cooked dumplings and bland duck and soup….pathetic. This restaurant does a disservice to NY food. I guess your rep as kept ypu in business. But you have to keep up the quality of your food. You can’t rest on reputation alone forever. Especially if your waiters are as pleasant to interact with as a rabid badger. I will warn everyone I meet to avoid this place.
Delicious, loved it here! Best congee I’ve had, and other dishes on menu just as good. Almost exclusively Chinese customers, eat in & takeaway very busy. Bustling, efficient service and relaxing decor. Can’t compare with others in NY (as visitors from Australia) but we were happy we lucky found this place & returned a few times.
Best Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. The congee comes served in a clay pot still bubbling. Superb.
Outstanding local Chinese place. The food is great. My seafood combination was ridiculously cheap at $12 and was piled higher with well cooked quality seafood than I’ve seen at any other restaurant for the price. It was delicious. Outstanding. I was also very taken with the steamed pork buns. The staff are efficient and offhand in the way of all good Chinese restaurants. No wonder there were lots of Chinese people eating here. My companion and I really liked it this place and we recommend it.
Very disappointed. I will not return. Clam dish was so undercooked, not even warm and taste so fish. Manger was so rude, pretending he doesn’t understand Enlish. I paid for that clam dish. When I addressed th problem, the manager actually yell at me. They were so rude keep asking me what is my problem. I told them to try the dish then u will know
Third time going to CV. It’s a long wait, but worth it. Food was great as usual, veggies were crunchy and flavorful and the Chilean sea bass is a must have. They are well known for their fried chicken which is out of this world. I will be going back again in the future.
