Best. German. Food. Ever.. It doesn’t get better than this. Really. Have been coming here for years. Newly expanded, lots of room. Service is top notch and friendly. If you speak German you’ll have even more fun, becuase so does the staff. Great atmosphere and food without the Americanized beer hall kitsch, but with a worthy beer menu. But please don’t come here if you don’t like German food and then complain. Try the decadent homemade liverwurst (yes decadent and liverwurst in the same sentence) even if you think you don’t like liverwurst. This isn’t Oscar Meyer. Worth commenting on, I have to be gluten free and they were very accommodating. Maybe one day Cafe Katja will have a gluten free spaetzle…

Terrific Austrian food, beer and wine. The food at a private party I attended here was served buffet-style, so I don’t have any experience ordering from the menu, but everything was delicious. The Austrian version of prosciutto, called Rucherschinken, melted in my mouth. The beet salad and sptzle were the best I’ve ever had, and the herring in cream sauce is on par with Aquavit. The beer and wine list is 100% Austrian and fairly extensive. Friendly staff, tiny space, cool neighborhood. Order a freshly baked pretzel!

The best German food on the lower East Side. (in the city for that matter) Unique sausages, great beer, and creative White Asparagus dishes. Highly recommend!

Liverwurst. The best in NYC, and the beer is always cold

Katja is a Dream Come True. Katja is an cozy orignal. They serve a fantastic mix of Austrian food that feels healthy and the owners and staff let you know your business is appreciated and special. Great beer list too.
