My husband and I have been to most of the Malaysian restaurants in the 5 boros and North Jersey. The pros-1. It used to be super dirty and they have renovated several times over the past few years. It is now relatively clean for the location and much cleaner than it used to be. They have even expanded recently.2.They used to have a China Town attitude meaning they only want Chinese to eat there they were not friendly to non Asians. That has changed They now have a=good customer service and even have a few servers who speak English. 3.It’s old school , not some new trendy place trying to take your money. There are not many restaurants that I would recommend to tourists in China Town Manhattan. We actually suggested this restaurant to a tourist couple wondering around looking for a place to eat. The cons-1.The food does not compare to any other Malaysian restaurant. 2.The quality and taste of the food the last few times was not the highest. My husband and I both got sick.

Excellent food and atmosphere. This was where I first tried Malaysian food and I loved it! I went with my Malaysian boyfriend and he loved the food as well, so I take that as a sign that the food is authentic. Definitely try their roti canai!

Great food and service!. Looks and smells Malaysian the minute we walked in the door. The menu is varied and covers many popular items. We had chicken satay, nasi lemak, mango chicken, and Singapore ice (aka ice kacang). The chicken satay was unusually served in that the the three sticks were already smothered in a light peanut sauce; my companion did not like it but I found it tasty although I would have preferred the sauce to be served aside and more robust. The nasi lemak was delicious comprising of the coconut-flavoured rice, sambal belachan, chicken curry, sliced cucumbers, boiled eggs and toasted peanuts. Brought back many memories of a savoury Malay dish. The mango chicken was served in a hollowed out mango skins, beautifully julienned mango fruit sauted with chicken. A nice bite but nicely glazed with the sweetness of the just ripe mango. The ice kacang was the traditional recipe of crushed ice, sweet red beans, creamed corn, green agar jelly, rose syrup and only a little condensed milk ( I doubt there was any but this was served in a glass). The restaurant did not serve popiah (Hokkien style crpes of jicama, shrimp dust and cucumbers with hoisin sauce) nor pisang goreng ( fried bananas), admittedly they would be a lot of work. However the menu had items I would be anxious to try in the future, e.g. Bakut Teh, Kuey Teow and Roti Chanai. It is in a funny location, down a dark alley corridor from Bowery St. But it is worth the trip and hunt for its authentic Malaysian taste.

I like their Curry Stuffed Combination appetizer: stuffed eggplant, tofu, peppers, etc. in a curry soup. Add some rice and it’s big enough for meal.

OMG, NUMERO UNO (or almost!). This has to be absolutely one of the all time bets Malaysian places in NYC. So hard to find, and REALLY worth it. Some hardcore foodie friends thought they had seen it all. They were blown away.Best of luck! Try to bring at least 4 people. 🙂

In the heart of Chinatown. Finding this place was a mission on its own because we used our double decker bus pass, and it did not drop us off very close. So use the subway like we should have.I always know when I am in an authentic asian restaurant, because the workers are always screaming (to them talking very loudly) to one another. We really just came for the Roti Cani, everything after that was just extra. I posted pics of the Roti and dessert they offered. We ordered a couple of the lunch entrees, and as I can recall we were not disappointed.

This is a great restaurant with good food and decent prices. I love their curry fishball soup and their Singapore ice for dessert. It gets busy and you may to wait a few minutes. They recently redecorated and it has a nice look. Be aware: it’s located down a well lit, bright and occupied alley way in the middle of block on Bowery if you walk too fast you may miss the alley way entrance.
