Omen in SoHo came strongly recommended to me by my japanese friends but I never sought it out until …We were shopping near Omen one day, and decided to have dinner here on a whim. Luckily we were able to snag a table right away without any reservation.Prices are high but justified. We love traditional Kyoto cuisine but decided not to go with the fix menu due to wanting to try out different entrees not available in the omakase.Presentation, taste, and service were all delightful. The flavors of each dish were complex yet balanced. Fish was tender and well prepared.Hands down, one of my favorite restaurants for Japanese fare downtown.

A Classic. Omen has been around for over 20 years and continues to be one of the best Japanese restaurants in the city. Specializing in traditional Kyoto cuisine (the original family restaurant is still in Kyoto), the omakase menu has seasonal specials, but there are always the favorites on the a la carte menu – the (lightly) fried soba noodles wrapped in sea weed with shrimp are divine — as is anything you order from here.
