Great Ice cream but a major ripoff for the portion size. Please retrain your employees on how to properly scoop!. Its $3 for a very tiny single scoop. Basically, the ice cream is really great homemade gourmet stuff, on par with other high-end ice cream such as Ample Hills across Atlantic Avenue. Where General Greene fumbles is their training of their scoop-huts employees in how to properly scoop ice cream. As you may well know, and would expect, a ‘scoop’ of ice cream does not mean to stick the the scooper into the bucket and whatever comes out is the amount for the customer. Rather, if you are trained properly to scoop ice cream – and those who work at this place are not – you would know to repeatedly roll the scooper over and over in the bucket until you gather what should equate to a tennis-ball, or even a baseball sized scoop. Instead, the employees here are trained to scoop you a single golfball sized allotment. Despite how good the ice cream is, and its very good, this leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the customer as they confusingly glance at the counterperson while forking over $3 for the tiny serving. Maybe the manager here never scooped ice cream before and doesnt know how it should be served. But I strongly suggest they get their act together. This caper has been going on for a couple of years now. And its very easy for the customer to see the half-gallon sized container the counterperson is scooping from, and eyeball that it easily contains 25 or even 30 of the golfball sized servings, making a container that maybe has $10 tops in ingredient costs yield 9X that in sales, delivering profit margins on ice cream far exceeding that of Ample Hills (where they know how to scoop properly!), and for that matter, any ice cream shop possibly on earth. This makes the General Greene’s Fort Grace Local seasonal ice cream counter the most expensive bite in NYC. Way to keep it real, Fort Greene!
